| Description: | Cliff Jordan by Cliff Jordan, released 1 November 2024.
This version of Cliff Jordan comes as a 1xLP. - 180GVinyl LP pressing housed in gatefold tip-on jacket. Under-recognized tenor Clifford Jordan blew in from Chicago with a trio of excellent Blue Note sessions in 1957, including this self-titled release featuring a septet with Lee Morgan (trumpet), Curtis Fuller (trombone), John Jenkins (alto sax), Ray Bryant (piano), Paul Chambers (bass) and Art Taylor (drums). This Blue Note Tone Poet Series mono edition was produced by Joe Harley, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original analog master tapes, pressed on 180g vinyl at RTI.Recorded on June 2, 1957 at Van Gelder Studios, Hackensack, New Jersey
Please note:
there's a misprint on release: despite to the description both on the jacket's spine and the Blue Note official website (Tone Poet Series section), the release results to be clearly stereo: winds are distributed on left (only the tenor sax in the middle), bass in the middle and drums on right. Avoid to edit the mono tag as per release.
The label also is wrong, it should say 'STEREO' on a stereo recording. 'Microgroove' on a mono recording."Cliff Jordan (Tone Poet Vinyl)" is a premium LP release by the acclaimed jazz saxophonist Clifford Jordan, presented by Blue Note as part of their prestigious Tone Poet series. Originally recorded in 1957, this album showcases Jordan's robust tenor saxophone sound and his remarkable ability to blend hard bop with soulful improvisation. The session features an all-star lineup including Lee Morgan on trumpet, Curtis Fuller on trombone, John Jenkins on alto saxophone, Ray Bryant on piano, Paul Chambers on bass, and Art Taylor on drums?each contributing to the dynamic interplay that defines this classic recording. Blue Note Records is renowned for its high-quality jazz releases and has been a cornerstone of the genre since 1939. Their Tone Poet series stands out for audiophile-grade vinyl pressings and meticulous attention to detail in both sound and packaging. Clifford Jordan was a prominent figure in post-bop jazz circles; throughout his career he collaborated with legends such as Max Roach and Horace Silver while also leading numerous influential sessions under his own name. |
